1968 SHELBY GT 350 CONVERTIBLE - PRICE - $ 109,900
This particular Shelby convertible is an early Shelby with the serial number of 0309. I have a tremendous amount of documentation that goes with the car all nicely put together in a special binder which includes some of the following items: Original owners manual; Elite Marti report; Original engine tag; Buck tag; Original invoice from the 2nd owner; Several Shelby brochures; Lots of work and parts invoices plus lots more very interesting items.
Yes, it is in the Shelby registry. There were only 404 GT350 convertibles made in 1968 which is actually a much lower than the 517 KR convertibles made in 1968. Out of this small number of 404 GT 350 Convertibles ONLY 11 were painted Raven Black and ONLY 8 of these had a White convertible top. When was the last Black GT350 that you have seen? This is a great driving Shelby and as you can imagine it gets great looks from everyone that sees it. It is not a trailer queen but it is a very nice driver that you could take to any car show and feel right at home. Check the prices on comparable GT350’s and I think you will find this car priced way under cars of similar condition especially cars with all the documentation that this Shelby has. Do not wait too long on this one, as I am sure that it will not last long at this price and condition.
In general, the 1968 GT 350/500’s were much more aggressive looking than the ‘67 Shelby’s. One of the reasons for this was the much larger grille opening with the inset rectangular driving lights. Interesting note is that this was the FIRST production car to ever have driving lights. The hood itself was much different than the 67 in that it had a scoop that was located right at the edge of the hood and the scoop itself went completely across the entire hood. The combination of the larger and more aggressive looking grille and the larger hood scoop right at the end of the hood made it the most fearsome appearing Shelby made to date. Another item on the hood that added to “Bad Boy “ imagine was the row of louvers at both corners on the back of the hood that extracted hot air out of the engine compartment. Other new items on the 68’s was the large sequential taillights, taken from the 65 T-Birds. They were mounted in a fiberglass panel that also sported a new very cool looking pop open gas cap with a large Cobra on it. On the inside of the car the were several items that made the Shelby’s look different than a regular Mustang. The wood grain center console had a pair of Stewart Warner gauges mounted at the top of this very nice looking console along with special brackets for the Shelby seat belts. The standard equipment roll bar with the special inertia shoulder harness obviously separated the Shelby from the normal Mustang. Another nice touch added to the Shelby interior was the Cobra embossed center console which made quite a statement all by itself. Of course all the Shelby’s had the most expensive luxury interiors with wood grain everywhere you looked.
