1968 CAMARO RS/SS CONVERTIBLE
The Chevrolet Camaro was introduced in 1967 and was built on the same F-Body platform as the Pontiac Firebird. When the car was introduced it came in two body-styles, a coupe and convertible. The base engine was a 3.7 liter inline-six cylinder producing 140 horsepower with a Saginaw three-speed manual gearbox. There were over 70 factory and 40 dealer options available so that the buyer could create a highly customizable, individualized car.
The 1968 model is part of the Camaro's crucial first generation. Chevrolet offered the 1968 Camaro with SS (Super Sport) performance options and RS (Rally Sport) cosmetic options. Buyers could purchase both options to create a Camaro RS/SS.
This car has both options. Rally Sport cosmetic options had hidden headlights, modified tail lights and upgraded exterior trim. They also added chrome "RS" badges to the exterior and interior. The RS was the most popular Camaro package in 1968. The Super Sport package included performance upgrades such as the 5.7 liter eight-cylinder engine with a 6.5 liter big-block. The SS badging was put on the grille, horn button, and gas cap. Front hood, non-functional air-inlets were also added in the SS package.
According to the seller the engine is a 396 that is 40 over. The exhaust is mfg. by Super Trapp and is a tuned exhaust system. See more details on the exhaust at http://www.supertrapp.com/product_sections/auto/index.asp.
