1965 Ford Mustang Convertible with Red Pony Interior
The contrast of the
black exterior with the red GT
stripes and red Pony
interior is very striking as you can see for yourselves. Also, please note the
number of options on this convertible; GT stripes and fog-lights, style steel
wheels, power top, Deluxe Pony interior, dual exhaust with special trumpets and
rear valance plus the very rare long console.
The body and all
the body panels are in excellent condition and the car is very nice to drive.
Please call me about this car if you have interest as I can tell you some
unbelievable facts about this convertible.
This car is a very
rare and unusual car
in that it is what we
call a transition car. What I mean by that is it has some very rare 64 ½ parts
on it. The date
that
Ford started production on the Mustang was March 9th
1964. The date that is widely accepted as the break between 64 and 65 production
is August 1st
1964.
This car was made on
Sept 25th 1964.
Ford was not going to
throw
away parts that were actually for 65 cars so a few of the 65 cars received
pieces from the 64 ½ parts bin. I would think it is very unusual for a car made
in Sept to have 64 ½ parts on it. Is it possible that someone found some early
parts somewhere at Ford and went ahead and used these parts at this later date?
We will never no why
this happened but these are original parts to this very car. These carry over
cars are quite rare and highly desirable cars. I
believe that
they
are probably rarer than the 64 ½ cars.
They only produced
28,833 convertibles I feel very convinced that they did not make that many
carry-over cars.
The rare pieces
that are on this car is the hood,
which
has the hood lip not sealed as the 65 and 66 cars are. Also the reinforcement
indents on the 65 and 66 hood and not on the 64 ½ hoods.
The edges of the
grill openings were flat on the 65 and 66 cars but were beveled to match up with
the open hood lip of the 64 cars. They also had very large horns that were
mounted on the frame rails instead of
on the radiator core
support. The holes were actually drilled for the horns but they were not mounted
to the frame rails but were put on the radiator core support instead. Another 64
feature on this car is the hood bumpers actually had holes in the rubber instead
of
being
round with no holes
As you can tell this is a very unique Mustang
convertible and would most probably be the only one like it at almost any car
show or gathering that you took it to. I also have some very rare and seldom
seen documentation with it. I have the original window sticker, owners manual
with something that I have not seen in years; the incredibly rare warranty card
with the original owners name and all the info on the car plus it still has it’s
original pouch in the front page of the owners manual.
I have numerous
more items that I can tell you about on this car that are noteworthy. Please
call me or email me with your questions and I will be happy to let you know
everything
I can about this car.
As you can see by the engine compartment we
have completed one of our show car engine compartment deatails which we do only
on cars that are worthy of all the time and money that we spend on them.
