1957 Ford T-Bird
Most T- Bird enthusiasts
consider the ‘57
T-Bird
as
the best T- Bird of all time. It is, of course, the last of the original design
created to go head to head with the Corvette.
Ford put their best effort
into creating what they called at the time a personal luxury car that had the
styling of a flashy European Sports Car costing thousands of dollars more.
As with most unusual and
collectable cars, it is the first series of cars that is the most valuable.
Also, the last one in that first series is ultimately the most desired and
valuable.
There were several minor
changes made to the ’57 T-Bird that made it unique. To most people these changes
were more pleasing to the eye and made the car better to drive. The ‘56 BIRD
came with a continental kit for the spare tire which had an adverse effect on
the way the car drove. As you might imagine, all of the additional weight
hanging over the rear end affected the handling. The trunk room was enhanced
with a slight re-designing which allowed for the spare tire to be stowed in an
upright position which even added more space in the trunk. The lines of the car
were enhanced by the addition of small tail fins that actually began around the
door handles on each side and gracefully carried on to the tip of the fins. The
57’s also had more powerful engines than either of the two preceding years which
of course made them much more fun to drive.
THE SAME FAMILY HAS OWNED
THIS 57 BIRD SINCE 1973.
THIS IS A CAR THAT YOU
COULD BUY RIGHT NOW AND DRIVE IT AND A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF FUN.
THE PAINT IS NOT AS NICE
AS THE PICTURES SHOW AND MOST PEOPLE WOULD SAY IT NEEDS A NEW PAINT JOB.
THE PAINT MAYBE AS OLD AS
30 YEARS OLD AND I AM SURE AT THE TIME IT WAS PAINTED SINCE THE CAR WAS NOT
WORTH MUCH MONEY THE OWNER DID NOT SPEND A GREAT DEAL OF MONEY ON THE PAINT JOB.
THE INTERIOR AS YOU CAN
SEE LOOKS NICE ESPECIALLY THE DASH AND THE SEATS.
IT HAS A WONDER BAR RADIO
WHICH I AM SURE IS THE ORIGINAL RADIO.
IT ALSO HAS THE OPTIONAL
HARDTOP AND THE OPTIONAL CONVERTIBLE TOP TOO.
SOMEONE HAS ADDED A/C
ALONG THE WAY BUT IT DOES NOT WORK AT THE PRESENT TIME.
THE
TRUNK IS VERY NICE AND COULD BE MADE MUCH NICER VERY EASILY.
IT HAS THE SPARE TIRE AND
HOLD DOWN FOR THE TIRE ALSO. WE DID A FEW MINOR THINGS TO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT
AND IT MADE A BIG DIFFERENCE.
PLEASE NOTICE THE RED
INNER FENDER WELL IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT THAT WAS JUST CLEANED AND POLISHED
IN ABOUT A 10 MINUTE TIME PERIOD.
SO OBVIOUSLY A LITTLE
ELBOW GREASE ON THE WEEK-END WOULD REALLY MAKE A DYNAMIC DIFFERENCE ON HOW AREAS
LIKE THIS ON THE CAR WOULD LOOK. IF YOU DO NOT LIKE TO DO THIS YOURSELF WE WILL
BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO DO ANYTHING THAT YOU WANT ON THE CAR.
THE OPTIONS ON THE CAR AS IT
CAME FROM THE FACTORY ARE POWER STEERING, WONDER-BAR RADIO, POWER BRAKES AND THE
FACTORY HARDTOP.
AS I SAID EARLIER A/C HAS
BEEN ADDED TO THE CAR YEARS AGO.
THE
HISTORY THAT I KNOW ON THE INDICATES THAT IT PROBABLY WAS A HOUSTON
CAR ALL OF ITS LIFE ALTHOUGH WE HAVE NO DOCUMENTS TO PROVE THIS.
THE
ODOMETER SHOWS 80000 MILES AND THIS ALSO COULD BE CORRECT BUT AGAIN NO DOCUMENTS
TO PROVE THIS.
IN
THE 50’ AND EARLY 60’S IT WAS NOT KNOWN HOW THESE CARS WOULD APPRECIATE AND
CONSEQUENTLY PEOPLE DID NOT THINK ABOUT KEEPING OIL CHANGE AND BATTERY RECORDS
ETC LIKE WE DO NOW.
IN SUMMARY THIS IS A VERY
AFFORDABLE 57 T-BIRD THAT DRIVES GREAT BUT COULD USE A LITTLE ELBOW GREASE TO
TAKE IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL.
